Thank you, Joan....I fell for Matisse hard ever since the Barnes Foundation show came through the National Gallery. Here I am, walking through the show with my family, feeling that there had been too big a build- up, that the works of many of the artists that he acquired had been picked over by the time he started collecting (the first part of the show was mainly Impressionists), with an occasional masterpiece by Seurat or Gaugin, when suddenly I step into a room of Matisses, more than I have ever seen at one time (I missed the MOMA retrospective), and of splendid quality. I am absolutely ravished! Ever since, I have gone out of my way----- I visit the Cone collection and various of the spin- off exhibitions in Baltimore a few times a year, I linger in the room finally devoted to him at the MOMA, I made a special trip to Lower Merion to visit the Barnes, I buy calendars and fill my wife's office with reproductions. The Dance is on a not very well- constructed web site I made, I isolated it for a faster download.....Anyway, I have a "feel" for you, and for Matisse, and somehow, it seemed a good match....
