Well- wait--- I wouldn't mind looking like Nicole Kidman for a little bit- like maybe ten or twenty years.

Do you think Kubrick was intentionally alienating the audience then?
If an audience doesn't see themselves, it then can have no sympathy. Was he pulling a Brecht?

You may be correct, that the discomfort was too high...it is searing, although it is precisely that sense of cutting to the bone that I most appreciate....
