Paper,

My guess is that we had a few margin call liquidations early this morning and that was met by some profit taking by short sellers.

I don't think today was much more than a bounce. The overall market was still very sick today despite the indexes.

Paperchase:

Difficult to believe that today was a recovery. Market breadth stunk. 2 stocks down for each 1 up. Interesting that it could go up so much with that ratio but since most stocks are in a bear market, I should not be surprised. My prediction tomorrow - early rally followed by selloff and the bond market will be down. I expect a major break in the next 2-3 weeks.
