Good point...maybe this news is just a threat by MSFT to drop AOL stock price so BILL can buy a ton...once he buys, expect a new release to say MSFT is dropping the whole idea!

It is amazing that half-baked characters keep jumping up and down like clowns without knowing what it means to be "Free" in a capitalistic country like US. Free in Europe is a gimmick.
People pay tons of money for connection charge.
It is equally amazing that people belive some thing free will come from
Billy boys gang unless they have an ulterior motive other than
compete against AOL. They gave IE free because they had a plan to integrate that with WIndows and hence protect windows in future.
Also it infringed on their core business.
ISP business is not their core business.
If they keep poking at ISPs, what all ISPs will do?
Will they fold hand and surrender to Billy?
Billy gets nearly half of his revenue from bloated office product
forced on every customer. If you buy a second pC for home
why do you need office? So growth in PC will not guarantee
office revenue as it used to be. In fact projected future growth in pcs will be in second pc for home arena.
If these free PC guys package Linux then his coveted Windoz revenue will start falling.
That is why Billy is in desparate mode not knowing where to steal
or copy other products. One of the brokerages friend told me that now Microsoft is in confused state and hence want to protect its revenue base by throwing money where ever he can. He is also bribing potential clients in teh form of equity investment to make sure that his products will be used in future. Even there most of them are non exclusive agreement as they cannot trust him.
That is not a vision of great leader. It is a sign of weakness.
His dream of every PC on every desk top and PC is the only world is
coming to an end as he acknowldged recently.
Handheld devices are taking off well without him.
Tried stealing AOL's AIM database and Case cut his finger.
He is trying desperately with CE devices and his color gimmick is not takeing off.
He is trying to enter corporate world with his buggy Windows and
big corporations has realized that they still need IBM big irons and Sun servers for any serious stuff. In fact IBM has done very well recently in Web centric commerce than anybody could imagine. Next comes Sun systems.
Come another month or two Judge Jackson will hand him a big cool Iceberg to his titanic.

AOL world is not coming to end.
