They were movies written first, movied second. By intelligent people. Yah, Dark City was positive. Surprisingly. And, come to think of it, not all filled with death and guts. Massive machinery turned to positive use. A metaphor Creation MYth.

And Pleasantville blew both of us a way with it's corollaries to prejudice and the invisible structural bones of culture.

A lot of times I look at movies and think, jesus, I could do better than this crap, but there have also been some really intelligent ones lately that would be hard to beat.

(Except for me, of course. :o))
