Strange you should ask. Not generally known, but Thales was accused of not being able to make practical application of his knowledge (according to Aristotle in his Politics ), so predicting a bumper crop of olives, he engaged all of the olive presses and made a fortune renting them out to olive growers. This was fundamental analysis, of course, but pretty slick it seems to me.
