Taiwan's VIA Signs Deal To Buy Parts Of IDT Subsidiary

TAIPEI -- VIA Technologies Inc. (Q.VIA) has signed a letter of agreement
with U.S. semiconductor company IDT Corp. (IDTC) to purchase parts of
IDT's Centaur design subsidiary, the Taiwanese chipset supplier said
Friday.

The deal with IDT is expected to be completed within

one month. The acquisitions will include intellectual property related to
WinChip microprocessor technology and Centaur's x86 microprocessor design team
in Texas, according to a press release.

VIA and IDT have also concluded a patent cross-license agreement
allowing each company to make use of intellectual property covered by
the other's patents.

VIA's stock closed NT$5.00 (US$1=NT$32.101) higher Friday at NT$145.00
on volume of 5.6 million shares.
