This sounds like a conspiracy theory to me and can probably be explained away by Intel rushing to beat AMD to the "600" number. If you check out your local stores, you are not likely to find too many PIII-600s either for the same reason. In the future when Intel announces a new speed grade, I wouldn't be surprised if the systems show up months after the announcement. That would be called Intel doing an AMD aka the "second mover" advantage ;-)

However, I wouldn't put it past Intel to pull off a stunt like that - so it is possible.
