Fund Manager Sees Drug Approvals Increasing, Is Bullish
On The Biotech Sector

Jump to first matched term

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 6, 1999--Even though the biotech area has been
through an eight-year bear market Michael Murphy, mutual fund manager and editor
of California Technology Stock Letter, sees a light at the end of the tunnel.

He notes that there were 13 biotech drug approvals by the FDA in 1996, 27 in 1997,
52 in 1998, and predicts that there should be around 80 new biotech drugs
approved by the FDA this year in the U.S.

Murphy thinks that the new drug approvals will increase interest in the biotech area,
and in companies in that sector. In a recent interview he discusses advances in
technology, industry developments, and mentions the following companies:
Cephalon (Nasdaq:CEPH), Cor Therapeutics (Nasdaq:CORR), Isis
Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq:ISIP), Ligand Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq:LGND) and
Xoma (Nasdaq:XOMA).

Murphy's interview is now available for replay at the AudioInvestor.Com Web site. To
