I like the ideas you and others have developed here about public folders.

As I see it, they could probably work in much the same way as SubjectMarks. A user would be able to see a list of all public folders (perhaps arranged in the same order as StockTalk subjects?), and choose to follow various folders. Only the chosen subjects would show up on the user's public folders page.

As you suggest, public folders could serve in some threads to create an index of posts on a certain topic.

Doing this kind of thing would probably require that two links be added to a message page: "List thread's public folders" and "File message". Those could probably be put below the bottom gray bar without adding excessive clutter to the page.

But I think page clutter is an important consideration, that I'll address in a separate message. I just wanted to say that your suggestions for use of public folders avoid the clutter trap.
