So that's 80mm2 for PPC in .25um with AltiVec and 40mm2 without it. Very large relative increase but in absolute terms - not a concern. Compare Pentium III at 140mm2 in .25um with SSE. And apparently AltiVec in a RISC architecture is far superior to SSE in x86. I would have to say that IBM blundered again in not embracing AltiVec. Any
comments??
