IDS receives explosives detection product order from Los Alamos National Laboratory

Toronto, Ontario, August 5, 1999

IDS Intelligent Detection Systems, Inc. announced a significant order for its handheld explosives detection product from Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico. "This order is an important validation of our technology", said Andy Rybak, an Executive Vice President of IDS and responsible for its Analytical and Security business unit. "It demonstrates that we can convert our superior technology into extraordinary market access. When it comes to security issues most organizations will not settle for second best. They will seek out and find the product and solution that best addresses their needs."

Through this order, IDS is now included on the US Governments (GSA) schedule. This enhanced status makes it much easier for the US government departments and agencies to purchase products from IDS. "In effect it removes many of the hurdles that purchasers have to overcome to buy from IDS and provides us with preferred access to these government markets," said Mr. Rybak.

IDS's Analytical and Security business recently booked orders for its handheld explosives and drug detection products that have been sold to organizations around the world including China, India, Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates as well as the United States.

"We are very encouraged by the market's acceptance of our technology and the corresponding growth in sales, and anticipated continued additional orders for these products in the current year," Mr. Rybak concluded.

IDS is a dynamic developer, manufacturer and marketer of sophisticated detection devices and systems. The company operates through seven business units: Analytical & Security products and solutions, IDS Power Control Systems, Scintrex Earth Science Instrumentation, Survey & Exploration Technology Services, IEC (Integration, Engineering and Consulting), ChemiCorp.
