Shares in Kensington (OTC BB: KNSC) were trading at $2.88 Friday afternoon, up 31 cents, or 12.20 percent, on the news. Privately held Mail Call uses advanced text-to-speech technology to read e-mail over a telephone. The user can then respond to the e-mails by selecting from one of four pre-written responses, or send a personalized voice reply. The company maintains a Website at www.mailcall.net. “We think they (Kensington) can help us a lot in our endeavor to be the number one choice for e-mail retrieval over the telephone,” Mail Call president Ron Schnell told dbusiness.com Friday afternoon. “We think we can add value to each other.” Kensington said Friday it had completed stock purchases of 36 percent of Mail Call, with goals to own more than 50 percent of the Miramar Tech firm. Schnell declined to name the number of shares of his privately held company bought by Kensington. Mail Call offers pricing plans of $7.50 to $11.95 monthly. The company says its system works from any telephone, anywhere, if the user dials its toll-free number and enters a personalized customer number and PIN code. The system works as long as the user has a POP3-type e-mail server, Mail Call says at its Website. Kensington manufactures and installs commercial and medical fixtures. The company is also involved in medical communications technology and medical products. Shares in Minneapolis-based Kensington just came off its 52-week high of $4.25, but traded at a low of 6 cents Sept. 4. The OTC firm has a market cap of $9.3 million, with 3.16 million shares outstanding. Mail Call maintains its headquarters at 8910 Miramar Parkway, Suite 208, in Miramar.
