Soon, instant messaging will be blending into email at the every level. Just imaging Mattel has a hot item (e.g. Tickle Me Elmo) planed for Christmas season, headquarter here needs up-to-the-second communications with procurement in Hong Kong and manufacturing facility in China. Instant message will become an indispensable tool, which will be part of the feature of email/browser. Of course, security is a big issue, for Mattel, whether to implement through VPN or In/Extranet and how to instant messaging out with buyers at Toys ‘R' Us or Wal-Mart is beyond the scope of this discussion. The function of instant message is to communicate with EVERY targeted party anywhere and anytime. If this goal breached, then this tool failed miserably. This utility is a low-tech tool, but what's critical is an industrial-wide standard protocol to exchange buddy lists, and it will happen soon. There is no need to fight on who came first or who is bigger unless the concept of this little technology is patented. The strong reaction from AOL... Well, I guess I better shut up for now. Folks holding AOL have been suffering enough pain this week. This is what I really meant to say... Come on ATHM ink a deal with CASE as that is the golden ring and u know it! It is on the horizon!
