The thing that attracted me to Splitrock IS Dark Fiber. I called their investor relations dept. Everyone was in a meeting. Finally spoke with a VP. Dark Fiber is the area they are looking to expand their presence in the most right now. The only* other public (I know of ) co thats associated with DRK FBR is Caprock Communications: CPRK. Right after they announced they were moving into DRK FBR their stock started to move. In about a month the stock jumped from 18 to the low 40s. Now its trading in the 27 to 33 range. *I am certain there are many companies involved in DRK FBR I just havn't been able to get any information on them. Saturday 8-28 the quiet period (sec reg) is over. If prior to that time any partnerships, aliances,or new customer relationships have been forged, obviously they're going to crow about it. And suddenly analysts jump on the band wagon. There are much worse places you could keep your money than in say 1000 or so shares of SPLT. The Market supposedly hit bottom and rose up late today. THATS THE ONLY REASON THIS STOCK IS BELOW 25$ RIGHT NOW. Where is it going to sell off to??? 9 1/2 ??? Come on DAD. If I'm wrong, this stock opens down in the morning. If I'm right your window may have closed on you. Your fear seems to be not jumping on the right Rocket. Most of us hear the countdown with our seatbelts on tight. I have been here before, there is nothing like the feeling of getting in on a stock before it starts to run, and at just about the lowest possible price: WITC, HSAC,YHOO,WGAT AOL (remember AOL)USIX,RAZF etc.et.etc. SPLT may not jump 5 pts a day right off, but you watch, its gonna, be a monster for a few days within the next week or so. YOU WILL SEE.... By: ezmonysplitrock.net OUR COMPANY We are a facilities-based provider of advanced data communications services. We market our services to Internet service providers, telecommunications carriers and other businesses throughout the United States. We own and operate a state-of-the-art, broadband access network that: consistently receives among the highest performance ratings in the industry for network reliability, speed and throughput; handles more than 1.3 billion minutes of use per month; reaches businesses and households in every U.S. market with a population of at least 100,000 as well as many smaller markets; and employs asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) switches at every point-of-presence(POP). The combination of our existing broadband access network with our pending acquisition of significant fiber optic facilities positions us to deliver a broad array of end-to-end data communications services on our own network, including: dial and dedicated Internet access; Internet access for higher bandwidth services, such as digital subscriber line (DSL) and cable modem; value-added services such as virtual private networks and web hosting; and bandwidth leasing and colocation services. As part of our ongoing efforts to further expand and enhance our network and service offerings, we have agreed to acquire the indefeasible rights to use four dark fiber strands in a state-of-the-art fiber optic network currently under construction by Level 3 Communications, with an option to use up to 12 additional fibers. This nationwide fiber network will cover approximately 15,000 route miles and will be delivered in segments that are expected to become available from the end of 1999 through the first quarter of 2001. The combination of this fiber optic backbone with our broadband access network positions us to: deliver, on our own facilities, a broad array of end-to-end data communications services at the high level of quality and reliability increasingly demanded by customers; expand our service offerings by providing bandwidth leasing services on a stand alone basis or bundled with our other services; increase the reliability and redundancy of our network; and increase the variety of service options and speeds available to customers. BACKGROUND Splitrock was formed in March 1997 by Kwok L. Li and William R. Wilson and began operations in September of that year. The company acquired the network that was owned and operated by Prodigy who wanted to outsource its Internet dial-up access. In June 1997, Splitrock began providing Internet dial access services to Prodigy's 800,000 subscribers. At this time, Splitrock began constructing and installing its advanced nationwide ATM-to-the-Edge™ network by establishing points of presence in all 50 states.
