I actually ended up a little above even on my shorts today - I had shorted PCLN and EBAY at market open, but forced myself to cover at a loss when both rallied. I then re-established my short on EBAY (actually doubled the amount) when I heard of Ebay's site going down.

Ebay's site was down at market open this morning - it's really amazing that with their history of outages, their stock was able to go up five or six points in the first hour or so of trading. It seems that nobody knew the site was down - and it didn't become widely known until it was announced on CNBC nearly 4 hours after the outage began. I guess not all news travels fast on the internet.

I don't know anyone personally at ebay, but if I had to guess the management is like my favorite Dilbert cartoon -

Dilbert: "If I worked nights and weekends as well as all holidays I could finish this task in 6 months, starting today"

Manager: "We need it in two weeks for a VP presentation"

Dilbert: "Has it ever occured to you to handle this differently"

Manager: "I need daily status reports as to why you are behind"
