Obviously, not lightly to be taken, are iNTEL's delays in delivering their latest pENTIUM notebook offerings. Looks good for AMD if they do not squander the opportunity.

survivin,

"I'm sure this little bit of info played a roll in today's rise. According to infobeads, in June, AMD gained 58% of the retail notebook market including 6 of the top 7 systems (1-6!). Intc had 40%, an all time low. This is certainly a nice bonus which should help the kamikaze bunch.

infobeads.com;

Retail sales in June correspond to AMD chip sales in April/May. My estimate is that AMD will go down from here until they introduce higher speed laptopchips - especially the 180-nm K6-3 coming before CuMine would be good.

WOW!

But notebook chips only make up a small part of AMD's and Intel's market.

Actually, if AMD did that well in the notebook market, notebook chips must have made a greater % of AMD's total chips sold in Q2 compared to Q1. This gives a clearer picture of how ugly AMD's desktop K6-2 sales were. That was really sad, if you think about it.

Notice there were NO Celeron models in the top 7. The Intel chip was the old, but still stable PMMX!

Here are the chips used in the top 6 selling notebooks:

Satellite2545CDS K6-2 333MHz
Satellite2545CDT K6-2 ???
Compaq 1255 - K6-2 333MHz
Compaq 1695 - K6-2 380MHz
Compaq 1690 - K6-2 400MHz
Compaq 1270 - K6-2 350MHz
