If @home forced me to see something or use a proprietary tool for common internet features, then I'd be one of those writing to regulatory bodies urging them to mandate open access to cable lines by other ISPs.

@home has from the very beginning been committed to "open" access. They define that as you use any browser you like to access any web site you like. I am certain they will never be so stupid as to change that principle.

Of course that doesnt mean that they cant have propriatry software and content in addition. I believe ATHM sould copy the AOL model in the sense that they create a content site good enough that people who cant have cable would pay for a "bring your own access" just to be able to use it. Could they create something that good? Not so far- but if they set that as a goal maybe they would.

Cable and all of broadband would benefit from such a site.
