I'm not a psychologist so my opinion on Hitler is purely that of an amateur. But I believe the humiliation Hitler was avenging goes back a long way before WWI. His childhood was pretty miserable. But it really doesn't matter what motivated his thirst for revenge since nothing could possibly justify the monstrosity he became. I'll take polite exception to the comment that he was "so successful until just before the end". I study military history. A number of people have expressed the opinion, which I agree with, that Hitler was successful early because of the audaciousness of his gambles. But once the world started calling his bluffs he started making terrible decisions. As early as 1940 Hitler began a series of disasterous decisions that absolutely cost Germany the war. And from 1942 onward it was clear to almost all senior German military leaders that they would eventually lose the war. So Hitler was far from successful until just before the end. I also believe the posters on this thread have over estimated Hitler's use of astrology.
