Cool, I'm definitely a buyer at these prices. Stock will reach 10 again within a year IMO!

Review: "The Iomega Clik! Drive for Digital Cameras is a real dream come true..."

Memory Card Price vs. Clik! Drive Price

After deciding that I loved the Clik! Drive with a passion. I wanted to see how it stacked up cost per MB wise with memory cards. For this comparison I did not include the new IBM MicroDrive. They are not readily available and they only work with a few consumer grade cameras. Also, the prices below are +/- ½ cent or so, also, prices do not include shipping or tax.

[ see cost-comparison between CF, SM and Clik! Disk and Drive]

In Summary

To take the same number of pictures using Compact Flash would cost you $1,203.30 that is figuring 2 HQ images per MB of memory storage, that means you would need 14 32MB Compact Flash cards. 14 x $85.95 = $1,203.30.

Smart Media isn't much better. To take the same number of pictures using Smart Media would cost you $1,217.30 that is figuring 2 HQ images per MB of memory storage, that means you would need 14 32MB Smart Memory cards. 14 x $86.95 = $1,217.30...

What About the Battery?

The battery life of the Clik! Drive is very good in my opinion. I filled the 8MB SM card that came with my Olympus C2000Z. I got 16 SQ JPEG images on the 8MB card. I then transferred these images to the Clik! Drive over and over using multiple disks until the battery was almost dead. What I got was:

# of 8MB
Transfers: 23
# of Transfers Per Disk: 5
# of Filled Clik! Disks: 4-3/5
Total Pictures Stored: 368

Frankly I think this is great. This should be able to handle anyone's photo taking field trip. If your going on vacation, take the cradle with you and plug it in at the hotel. When you get back at night, charge the battery then.

...
Summary

PROS:

Small, fast, user friendly, convenient, good price, well made and the best solution for digital camera storage going.

CONS:

Doesn't support 32MB SM cards, lacks a card formatting button, will not span disks.

It is my opinion that the Clik! Drive is the sliced bread of the consumer digital camera world. There is nothing out there that comes close to the flexibility and cost savings that the Iomega Clik! Drive offers. If you have a digital camera that uses SmartMedia or Compact Flash memory, this is must have if you want an affordable way to shoot pictures until the cows come home. It is small, well made and easy to use.

"s" is what your saying that IOM is going to produce a CD burner in the near future? If so will it have USB compatibility? Thanks for all your great info.
