After re-rereading your posts, I realized that what you're suggesting doesn't really require more than one extra link on a message page, so clutter isn't much of a danger.

If I understand your suggestions correctly, it could all be done with just a "File message" link added to the message page. I believe all other filing (or indexing) options could be put on the page called up from there. No? A link to view the thread-associated public folders could be put on the index page. It would be more visible if it were on each message page, but that's not really necessary.

About the folders. I think there's an error in the system. I clicked "file" the first time(just to see what it was) for one of my messages, then created a folder in which to file it to. But after I created the folder, *poof!* the message had vanished! Nowhere to be found. I was able to recover it only by hitting the "back" button, and then filing it again (since the folder had finally been created). It would be nice if SI got that fixed.
