Bleed the competition. Right. Again. Gate wants free access to AOL's subscribers whereas AOL is willing to pay a fee for open access to cable. And this without permission. Msft and Yahoo made a deal. So why not negotiate with AOL? Something is funny in paradise. The least Msft could do is sit down with AOL and partners in this instant messaging controversy and not the other way around.

Yeah. This should be a sequel to "The Pirates of Silicon Valley".

Voop, very well rounded analysis. IMHO, MSFT thumbing their nose at the DOJ and to the world.

Providing content is not the same as writing software. Bill Gates is extremely smart and he knows that providing free Internet access is a different ballgame than writing software packages like IE, WIN2000, DOS etc. If they think that they will get in the ISP business and succeed then they could also run a hotel chain like say the Marriott or Hilton and hope to succeed. So he knows that he is not going to get into it.

But hey why not thumb nose? Why not dare the DOJ to act. What harm does it do them to stress to the DOJ how critical and vital they are to the stability of this economy.
UNCLE SAM, BEWARE WE CAN SCREW YOU UP. That is what they are saying.

So where does a small ISP national reseller like this one play in the scheme of things?

Looks like AOL is calling in the Network Analysts to shore up interest. There were at least 7 analysts reports on the networks on Friday. One report had two analysts (Ron Elijah of Elijah Asset Management and William Keithler of Invesco), and Paul Merenbloom of Prudential Securities was on CNBC and CNNfn:

I see something in Pittman's quote at the end of the article. He and Case know exactly who they are dealing with.

Gates once said he would crush AOL and he was wrong that time too.

Everyone talks like AOL is playing defense. Case and Pittman made the proactive moves here.

Gates was always late on the net. Remember he had to rewrite his book "Information Highway"?

This is AOL's game plan all the way.
Gates is trying to match strategy with tactics. It never works.
