Gottfried -- your post and the two preceding sparked an idea for a new Iomega ad campaign.

All ads set in hip, hurry-up center of the universe, NYC.
Different types solving different problems with IOM products. Wall Street type, TV producer, stunning young model, student, taxi driver, guy behind deli counter, cop, etc.

Short TV spots -- black and white hand-held camera work. Establishing shot of person with a problem -- sounds of NY audio -- fast transition to thank God I got a Zip (or whatever) or I don't know what I'd do. Shot of slime ball type mumbling something about Iomega sucks (RATZO REID!!!). Last shot of the focal character blowing Ratzo off in a way appropriate to character ("Move It" or rolled eyeballs or whatever -- cut to closing of character looking right into camera and saying, in various ways, "Look if you got work to do -- get a Zip -- it might save your butt!"

Do these in a couple of test markets and back 'em up with good size print that clearly shows the TV characters in local papers.

IBM has done some great simple ads in this vein.

If Iomega can do them well, they could become "cult' thing -celebs often do these for scale -- remember the old Miller lite TV spots -- every sports guy in the world was begging to be in these. IOM could eventually branch out -- do a few in Savannah, Iowa cornfield, ElPaso, LA, etc. Potential???

Sorry to throw this in your lap, Gottfried. But you know how these 'flashes' are -- write 'em down right now or they're gone forever.

FWIW, I bought 'tons' of Nov 5 calls today for 7/16. Gotta be a little bounce. Right Gottfried? :-)
