here is another point in the diamond discussion from a clipping of the G&M I believe:<Cool new diamond recipe.
Chinese scientists have found a simple method of making diamonds.Researchers from the University of Science and Technology in Hefel combined sodium, a nickel-cobalt alloy and tetrachloride in a stainless-steel container and cooked it for 48 hours at 700 degrees.The result yields 2 percent diamonds and 98 percent graphite.Previous synthesis required much higher temperatures.>
