What counts is what's *IN* the skirt, not its length. <eom> Ice

Whither now? - Correction, destruction or opportunity? -
The past few weeks have certainly been difficult, and, err expensive, Interest rate jitters have spooked the market, the internet stocks have gove from wunderstocks to leperstocks, and some might titans have retrenched some of the big gains this year.

1. The Internet - will only become bigger. IMO, the top notched stocks, AOL, YHOO, ATHM, CMGI are approaching raging steals, though they may get cheaper. They are the companies with the commanding initial presence in the internet revolution, probably the biggest paradigm shift in our lifetime. The Internet will only continue to become a bigger part of our lives, economy and way of thinking. The suppliers of technology, Dell, LU, CSCO, GLW, INKT, RMBS, etc will continue their strong growth rates. EBAY, AMZN, etc are on the fence IMO, having present commanding positions, but seems very overpriced, even now. HSAC, MSPG, ELNK, seem attractive here, particulary the ISPs, they have been beaten down big time.
There are tremendous concerns about access - phone modem vs broadband vs adsl vs wireless. all will succeed. Cable modem remains the access means of choice, ATHM and TWX's Roadrunner will continue to sign up serious users. And the rates will come down, that is the nature of progress and competition. but that doesn't mean less profit for the companies. Advertising income will become a bigger source of revenue than subscriptions. DSL will become more pervasive, same phone line, constant on-line access BEL, SBC are ready to roll out DSL, in combination with AOL. SO is MSPG and ELNK and GTE and uncle Charlie.
There is talk of free access - free is what you pay for it!! - i'll pay my $35/mo for Roadrunner and not have to surf through half a screen of advertising, thank you.
AOL - don't count this baby out - 18 million subscribers - and you know what. a lot of people don't want to pay 35 or 40/mo for dsl, cable modem, extra phone line, etc. thats a lot of money per month for a lot of folks.
Picks: BEL and SBC are telecom giants, controlling home access to 2/3 of US homes. they get monthly checks from us now, are rolling out new services and will be offering long distance soon. gotta owns.
WMT and PFE are two stocks that have been beaten up and VERY attractive for investment at this time.
QWST/USW is very cheap, play it either way - still think BLS will buy the whole kit and kaboodle within 2 years.
Now susie, how much of a turnaround do we need. Ron told he was going to 100% margin long if he could get a front row seat. gggg larry
