Well, since I started this "argument," let me define my terms. <g>

I had in mind "argument" in the broadest sense: that is, "a discussion, in which disagreement is expressed on some point" (American Heritage). It's hard to think of any topic on which the participants in a discussion would agree on all points. The point is -- how do they disagree? Are they engaged in a mutual search for truth -- trying out ideas on each other, so to speak -- or is each trying to prove his/her own already solidified position? And so forth.

Another thing: there is also "argument" as a form of flirtation, or of foreplay, if you will. I kid you not. My late husband and I used to "argue" about certain set topics, for fun. But, of course, we knew in advance that the argument was not "serious."
