Interesting that you should mention Intel and Merrill Lynch: For years the analyst at Merrill covering Intel was Tom Kurlak, who was utterly appallingly bad. But the retail sales force, which is huge, would go out and tell their customers what he was saying and the stock would move for a couple of days. And then idiots would say, "See, he was right!" Quite the contrary was the reality. He was wrong on Intel so often that it was dizzying. I suspect he left Merrill one hop ahead of being fired.
