Network Associates Named Charter Member of Cisco's
Security Associate Program

Network Associates' PGP VPN and McAfee Total Virus Defense Interoperability With Cisco
Security Products to Be Validated

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Aug. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Network Associates, Inc. (Nasdaq: NETA - news) today announced that it has been selected as a charter member of Cisco Systems, Inc.'s (Nasdaq: CSCO - news) newly announced Security Associate Program. Through this program, Cisco will test Network Associates' industry-leading McAfee Total Virus Defense anti-virus and PGP VPN products with its own security products to lessen the interoperability burden of customers who require increased security for Internet applications. After the testing, select Network Associates products will be proven to permit easy interoperability with leading Cisco products implemented in millions of customer sites worldwide.

The Security Associate Program is a new initiative introduced by Cisco to provide security solutions that leverage third party vendor solutions, such as Network Associates' PGP VPN and TVD Suite, to complement Cisco's security product line and deliver a comprehensive security solution for Cisco's customers. Network Associates' PGP VPN client software can be combined with a Cisco VPN gateway to provide customers with a robust Internet Protocol Security (IPSec) compliant solution for remote access VPNs.

''Our Security Associate Program is designed to let customers safely conduct business over the Internet,'' said Tracey Lewis, Security Associate program manager at Cisco Systems ''We're addressing the issue of how to take advantage of the Internet without becoming vulnerable to a growing list of Internet-based threats. Network Associates' McAfee Total Virus Defense and PGP VPN products are a welcome addition to the program.''

Network Associates is one of the only charter members of the Security Associate Program to validate multiple security products, including TVD, the world's leading anti-virus solution, and PGP VPN, which provides the performance, security and cost savings associated with VPNs combined with minimal startup and support costs and remarkable ease of use. This validation is the most recent development in Network Associates' and Cisco Systems' ongoing cooperative efforts to deliver increased security to their respective customers.

''Network Associates' participation with Cisco in the Security Associate Program will enable customers around the world to deploy best-of-breed anti-virus protection and VPN solutions from both companies with the comfort of proven interoperability,'' said Peter Watkins, general manager of products and support for Network Associates. ''Our expertise in robust, easy-to-deploy, security software combined with Cisco's leadership position in networking solutions represents a clear win for our corporate customers everywhere.''

Network Associates' PGP VPN is an IPSec-compliant VPN solution for Windows 95/98/NT and Macintosh. PGP VPN is the only VPN client product on the market to integrate email, file, disk and VPN security into a single lightweight solution for remote users. It is designed for easy enterprise rollouts with features like pre-configured silent install and completely transparent end user operations. PGP VPN supports PGP certificates as well as all major X.509 v3 certificate formats, including VeriSign, Entrust and the Net Tools PKI from Network Associates.

McAfee's Total Virus Defense (TVD), with its award-winning VirusScan desktop virus protection, will help Cisco customers protect their networks from malicious virus attacks and hostile mobile code. The TVD suite's VirusScan software is the first desktop antivirus product to scan email attachments at the mailbox level with its ''email x-ray'' feature, and also includes the only desktop antivirus protection for the latest Java and ActiveX threats as well as updated Office2000 protection. TVD is installed as a separate product and protects desktops, servers, groupware, and the Internet gateway from viruses.
