wily, I downloaded the shareware link that you posted and converted the picture to gif format with it. It worked fine, thanks very much. I'm now wondering if there is a feature to cut the size of photos to make them smaller. I know I can do this when I scan the photo, but my scanner is not set up yet. Thanks to everyone who made suggestions and shared information with me, it is greatly appreciated. One of the reasons why I like SI so much is the generous and helpful people! kanda
