Exxon tests record rate at Gulf of Mexico gas well

16-06-99 Exxon announced a record-breaking production test for a new natural gas well in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. The well, located south of Dauphin Island in Mobile County, Alabama, flowed at a rate of more than 126 mm cfpd during extended testing, the nation's largest oil company said in a statement.

The previous record in Alabama state waters was 91 mm cfpd, Exxon said. The company added that the highest test rate in the federal Outer Continental Shelf area of the Gulf of Mexico is reported to be 113 mm cfpd of gas. The record well was drilled earlier this year in approximately 40 feet of water and to a depth of 21,849 feet.
