"...the feeling of distance one senses in the beta site"

you are not alone. i tried to briefly put the same feeling into words to bryan the other day, zeuspaul..

it's a dreary and uninspiring place... clinical. lifeless.

do you suppose that 'the brass' continues to think our voices are raised in unison because we resist change? i think they do.

like you, zeuspaul, i can adjust. hell, i'm in beta now. i am preparing for the inevitable. but i am astonished that so many respected voices are not being heard. your analogy of explaining something to people is beautiful. i see it everyday on the stock threads... people explaining why an issue should be valued higher, while it slips into oblivion as the market turns its back. simply put, there is way too much explaining going on around here. and while i am adamant in my belief that SI members are not resisting change, i will quickly point out that one thing almost everyone shares in common is a steadfast resistance to being told what they like and why they should like it.

unfortunately, when one articulates one's preferences, it sometimes bleeds over into saying that a 'pro-beta' person is wrong, or has no taste, or the opposite occurs and people are dinosaurs and oldtimers. the very best any of us can do is to strive to keep this on less of a personal level. i am repulsed by beta, but i do not mean to insult the folks who prefer it. and i regret if i ever have sounded that way. believe me, i have made an effort to never direct my intense dislike for beta at any individual.

:)
