Pelican Mountains Block - Calling Lake
The Pelican Mountains block comprises 450,000 acres and is located 90 km north of the town of Athabasca in north central Alberta. The block is underlain by the Buffalo Head Craton. The recent success of Ashton Mines and Kennecott in their discovery of Diamondiferous Kimberlite pipes has demonstrated the potential of the Buffalo Head Craton to host primary diamond deposits. Infrastructure in this area is considered excellent and the property is road accessible year-round.

The recent discovery of a macrodiamond in the Calling Lake area indicates this area exhibits excellent potential for a major discovery. The Pelican Montain block is located contiguous and up ice of the macrodiamond discovery. Recent analysis of diamond indicator samples by the Alberta Geological Survey identified, among others, two anomalous sites within the immediate vicinity of the properties. Till sample NAT-95-129 (Pelican Mountains), a few hundred metres north of the Pelican Mountains property contained G1 and G10 garnets, while till sample NAT 95-126 (Calling River), 25 km southeast of the Pelican Mountains property contained G2, G5, G7, and G11 garnets. These indicator minerals are likely sourced locally within the immediate vicinity of NBL's Pelican Mountain properties, and provide evidence of potential diamond bearing Kimberlite pipes.

The Geological Survey of Canada (1952) aeromagnetic survey map for the area covering the Pelican Mountains and Sandy Lake properties shows at least fourteen circular to elliptical one or two line magnetic anomalies which follow a northwesterly trend. At least seven magnetic anomalies lie within the property boundaries, they are approximately 500 - 1000 metres in diameter, and have amplitudes between 1,300 - 1,580 nT. Furthermore, drift thickness within the area of the Pelican Mountains varies from bedrock exposure to only a few tens of metres.

A 200 metre line spaced high-resolution aeromagnetic survey is planned for the first quarter of 1999.

Little Legend Property
The Little Legend Property encompasses 23,040 acres and is located within the central portions of Montello's Legend property along the southern part of Birch Mountains in northeastern Alberta. The property is in the middle of a diamondiferous Kimberlite field recently discovered by the Montello-Redwood-Kennecott joint-venture. So far, several Kimberlite Pipes have been discovered within close proximity and surrounding the property's boundaries.

The property is less than 40 km north of the axial trace of the Peace River Arch (PRA). Regional scale structures such as the PRA are likely to preserve mantle-roots and provide suitable conduits for Kimberlite emplacement. The PRA and associated zones of structural weakness may have played an important role in the emplacement of the Buffalo Head, Legend, and Mountain Lake Kimberlites.

High-resolution aeromagnetic data on the Little Legend shows a number of discrete anomalies on the property, similar to those found in the immediate vicinity.

A ground based magnetic survey designed to prioritize drill targets for drilling in the new year is currently in progress.

Mr. Chet Idziszek reports
The company has released new diamond indicator mineral results from the Calling Lake target area on the Calling Lake and Varlaam properties in Northern Alberta.
Twelve of Gurney's G10 garnets have now been recovered from the Calling Lake target area. One sample in particular, 9803S, produced 159 pyrope garnets (pyropes) of which 10 are G10 pyropes, one of which has yielded exceptional chemistry with less than 1 wt per cent CaO and greater than 10 wt per cent Cr2O3. According to Gurney (1984), the extreme chromium rich and sub-calcic nature of this type of G10 pyrope garnet has great exploration significance since its composition is typical of G10 garnets recovered from high-grade diamond-bearing kimberlite pipes with a large proportion of peridotitic (garnet harzburgite) diamonds.
The company's previous news release reported that three beach sediment samples collected from the Calling Lake target area in late 1998 had produced an extraordinary quantity of heavy mineral concentrate. The samples were collected from three separate sample sites, one kilometre apart, along the southwest shore of Calling Lake and 10 kilometres northwest of sample 9803S. The Saskatchewan Research Council has completed picking the silicate portion of the heavy mineral concentrate from these samples and has identified over 300 pyropes in two of the samples and approximately 90 in the third sample. All three samples contain chrome diopside. SRC is currently conducting microprobe analyses on all of the pyrope garnets. The company and its diamond exploration consultants agree that, in addition to the variety of previously reported diamond indicator minerals recovered, the exceptional chemistry and quantity of pyropes observed in the Calling Lake target area is a result of the erosion of a diamond bearing kimberlitic source either within or directly adjacent to Calling Lake.
The company is pleased to announce that on April 19, 1999, Terraquest Ltd. commenced flying an airborne magnetic survey on the Varlaam property. The majority of the Calling Lake target area lies within the Varlaam property and the identification of any significant magnetic anomalies within the Calling Lake target area will immediately become high priority drill targets. It is anticipated that complete results from the Varlaam airborne geophysical survey will not be available until June 1999.
Diamond indicator mineral results are pending for the recently completed overburden auger-sampling program on the Calling Lake and Varlaam properties. Once results of the auger program have been received and evaluated, the company will determine the type and amount of follow up exploration required prior to diamond drilling potential kimberlite targets.
The Calling Lake and Varlaam properties are contiguous and cover approximately 177,000 hectares. The company owns a 100 per cent interest in the Calling Lake property and has an option from New Claymore Resources Ltd. to acquire up to a 70 per cent interest in the Varlaam property.
