You bought the camera from the manufacturer.
You bought the antiques from individuals.
You got the Christmas lights from "Montana". A physical place, not a virtual one. I'll bet it was not from a pure internet retailer or even a major "shopping portal".

What does this say about the future of e-retail?

Invest in the people who make the net be, not those who just use it unless they have something very special to offer.

Now you're educating me. That's the kind of stuff that is valuable to investors. Your experience is representative.

Cutting out the middleman is very profitable for those who do so first. That forces other businesses to go e-commerce in scale.
