C-Cube to Demonstrate State of the Art HD Encoding Silicon

C-Cube to Demonstrate State of the Art HD Encoding Silicon for Video Production and Broadcast at IBC 1999

Crawley, England, 20 July 1999. C-Cube Microsystems (Nasdaq: CUBE) is to hold technology demonstrations of the world's first architecture to support HD broadcast encoding as well as HD non-linear editing at IBC, Amsterdam, 10-14 September.

The demonstration of C-Cube's HD broadcast encoder, based on second generation silicon, will provide insight into the HD encoding process as well as the future of HD broadcast systems. First generation C-Cube silicon is already in use by major broadcast equipment suppliers for current HD encoders. The company will introduce silicon implementing the new broadcast encoding technology at IBC '99.

C-Cube will also demonstrate the technology required to address HD encoding and decoding for video production applications. Based on the award-winning DVxpress family of codecs, the company will show the extensibility of the architecture, from SD to HD. C-Cube expects to release products implementing this technology by mid-year 2000.

Last year, C-Cube introduced DVxpress-MX, the world's first all-digital, mixed-format video production solution to allow MPEG and DV to co-exist in broadcast and studio environments.

DVxpress-MX is a single-chip codec that makes DV and MPEG video content interoperable for the first time, allowing data to pass from the camera to the editing workstation and then to distribution entirely within the digital domain. Leading video and broadcast solution providers including Panasonic (NYSE: MC), Avid (Nasdaq: AVID) and Adobe (Nasdaq: ADBE) have endorsed DVxpress-MX as the industry enabler of a new category of all-digital, mixed-format video production systems. Five leading manufacturers of non-linear editing boards have announced new products based on the chip.
