In a later post I did qualify this little reverse history with the disclaimer "worst case".
But I do believe the content.

As for mine being bigger or smaller or having a more popular surface texture ... I must admit this didn't enter my beady little mind. 'Course if you have an opinion ... <evil giggle>

As a species we are entering a time of phenomenal crisis. Danger/opportunity. Like the atomic threat (effectively a loss of our genocidal virginity! Poison gas was third base, or something) only less immediately volitional. No big button blazoned with a red middle finger. Finger-and-sickle.
There will be environmental crisis. We're just plain Xing running out of land. And water. The Great Society will be utterly overrun by tent life. This could drag us down. But islands or redoubts or even larger societies of the careful rich will survive and take us to the next level. Space travel. Space industry and habitat. Total genetic mastery of disease, then appearance, then function. Want gills? Want far-IR vision? No problemo.
This could go either way. And purely imo - it will - both ways - simultaneously. Ya can't go back, Dorothy. And quite possibly - you wouldn't want to.
