OT but is it really..

I can not understand a lot of things having to do with people creating rules so they can feel powerful by controlling others. But it happens everywhere. Once educated and they decide to go the path of followig the elders then who are others to say it is wrong like in the US. And education will reach all parts of the world in the near future, no way of getting out of it. The internet will just speed it up a hundred fold. After all, the power and money hungry also like luxries. It just takes time. Hey it took a 1000 years to get rid of the clergy controlling all aspects of our lives, another 100 or 200 is not that long to get rid of the rest. Humanity needs progress, those who dont progress die out.

What is it The Taliban hope to accomplish??...the complete disappearance of their culture and population within a couple of generations?? For certain a women-less society will cease to exist.

What possible religious vision could justify that??

This is beyond my comprehension....

Thanks, Ike for this message about the Taliban.
And for pointing out the misuse of Islam. The abuse of fundamentalists in US is also quite off the mark and very politically motivated, I feel.

I also appreciated your pointing out the property rights enjoyed by women. Years ago I learned this from a female Pakistani grad student with whom I often worked. That many progressive features were in Islamic law when Europe was in its 'dark ages'.

Also I invited a lecture from Boalt, the law school of University of California Berkeley to speak on Islamic law before the World Affairs Council in San Francisco. One of many points he made was the tremendously good foundation there was in family law.

What is happening is tragic. You motivate me to do something.

Interesting that the Saudi's fund the Taliban....
