you're welcome. don't know about YOUR polluted river, since you didn't mention it by name. BUT then i'm NOT a katadyn distributor. the only way to know for sure is to do one of those water quality tests AFTER running it through a katadyn filter and then reporting back to us.

wonder if CDC Atlanta keeps statistics on deaths from water bourne illness from your river?? should be a simple matter to pursue by internet inquiry, since it would be a publically available statistic i would surmise.

and if CDC doesn't know, maybe you know W.H.O. does :)

look on the bright side. for only $249 plus shipping and subject to availability of replacement cartridges after 4.5 years if you are just filtering for 3 of the 4 women you are planning on caretaking, if YOU are the only one who knows it is safe to drink AFTER a katadyn katydid-it treatment, then you won't have much much of a competition line-up at your west bank bank for your daily water supply from said 'polluted river', right? :)
