One third of the Dow stocks are heavy industry stocks - AA, BA, CAT, CHV, DD, UK, IP, MMM, UK, and XON. ALD, GE, and UTX could also be considered diversified industrial companies. Not to mention, the special pops in specific stocks in the Dow. UK got a 15 point boost from the buyout (75 Dow points). HWP got a 15-30 point boost from announcing that they were splitting up the company (75 Dow points). IBM got 40-50 pre-split point boost from announcing that they were an internet company (200 Dow points).

Chart:

I've also noticed that the Dow has been performing better on a RS basis than the Nasdaq and S&P 500... I think money is being pumped into the Dow to keep it from falling below the the 10,400 level which would produce a Dow Theory sell signal... If it can hold it's possible that the Generals could lead the troops up... At least that's what the strategy appears to be...

I have a couple of thoughts. You can not relate the status of the NYSE Bullish Percent with a level of an index but since the the NYSE Bull Percent encompasses the whole NYSE exchange it would probably fit best with a broad index like the NYSE Composite. The DIA is 30 stocks and they are big names which have the ability to hold up well (this was brought up in a previous response). Keep in mind that a positive RS chart does not mean that the price will rise, rather it indicates a likelihood it will outperform the other index. Both can fall. The NYSE BUll % in O's indicates higher risk in the market.
