No, I don't think our survival is that essential to anyone but us. There is no God to rely on (though in the endgame there will be much pitiful praying), and though dogs and cats seem to like us quite a bit, I dare say our absence wouldn't be felt by most creatures.

But I feel that not only is our survival very important, but so is the prevention of the suffering that would inevitably accompany the attrition of our "selves," and those of our animal associates, over time.

As Lather said, Man may adjust, but People don't.

Yes, I think Life matters. And suffering does, too.
