glen, i don't think i do. whether a retailer is honest or not, he/she benefits from ignorance - even though they may not
cause the ignorance. it is a fact, not a judgment on retailers.

A good retailer benefits from offering a good product at a decent price along with excellent customer service. Those that cannot offer all three, fail or at least, do poorly. The consuer will always receive s decent price regardless of their knowledge from a good retailer.

why would i pay $200 more for a table if i knew it was on sale 3 blocks down the road? if i didn't know that then i'd
probably plunk down my money and be happy. if i'd save $200 and that store would lose $200.

I am not certain of the total price of this example table but the percentage of the total cost variation is what counts. Paying a few percentage points more for the same table in perfect condition (no scratches, etc,), delivered when promised and at a convenient time to the customer is important. Also, having that table available when wanted is important. These are all service factors.
