Eric, your archives are stupendous. You make a very interesting point, namely, that AT&T could have chosen CDMA but for the uncertainty surrounding the new technology. With the research expertise AT&T had in its own labs, one would have thought it would be easy enough to evaluate the competing technologies. What all this suggests, if anything, is that QUALCOMM had to have some pretty sharp management to overcome the impediments raised by its competitors.
