Yes Christopher, it is tough in our day-to-day life isn't it? But nevertheless something wonderful to aspire to.

I've been reading a outstanding book these past few days dealing with "power and influence". Here is a passage with regard to the kindness domain. I believe appropriate for this thread now.

Kindness...
Kindness-speaks for itself. We want to be treated that way. Do we treat others with kindness? Kindness means being sensitive, caring, and thoughtful. We act with consideration, politeness, civility, and genuine concern. Others feel our benevolence because it permeates our beings and becomes the foundation for all our interactions.

It is instructive that the Chinese symbols for kindness describe love and compassion in a friendly exchange between two human beings, mutually opening to the larger part of our joint human concerns and understanding. Kindness is rare and yet more common than we might realize. Emerson invited us to look around, acknowledging what, in the turbulent jostling of day-to-day interactions, might otherwise be overlooked, when he said.

"There is a great deal more to kindness than is ever spoken. How many people we meet whom we scarcely speak to, whom yet we honor and who honor us?"

Loving kindness toward others will create a spirit of unparalleled reciprocity. Followers will become leaders, leaders will sacrifice toward mutual goals. With loving kindness, you will win hearts. Through compassion, you will gain loyalty and cooperation.

I concur with your appreciation of his posting.

Long ago--and still from time to time--I have considered entering a cloistered order. I do find a religious retreat to be a refreshing experience for the mind and soul. Have you tried it?
