Doug, things I found interesting about the Plain Dealer article include:
1) gas utilities are being gobbled up by their electricity counterparts (obviously, not just to heat homes)
2) transporting power long distances over the national grid has proven to be unreliable (local generation close to point of service gains popularity)
3) it is basically impossible to permit new "base level" generators burning coal (many new small-scale "peak level" gas generators are going up in places permitting is less of a problem, such as refineries and existing generating plants)
