Good point..plus the content providers need to choose the codec(s) they wish to use to encode the music and then start encoding..which will take a while. Secure MP3 is not an issue with SDMI phase one. However, it comes into play with phase II, which is perhaps why Matsushita chose to wait until April for their release. They don't seem to be worried about a Christmas release and frankly, neither am I, (but I don't count). I think we will have an offering before Christmas season and it has been stated many times that in fact it can be done. For the sake of morale, (for those that need it) it would be a good thing. It would also prevent a machicolation for the arrows of the bashers.
Interesting that Matsushita would elect to exclude one of the codecs.
The current most popular, at that. Perhaps they don't want to have to design a system that would exclude it at a later date or perhaps it was mandated that they exclude it. Possibly they just wanted to exclude an inferior code.
Best, Savant
PS, I am keeping my e.Digital coffee cup ready for champagne when we announce our first music player contract, or alternatively, when the Lanier orders hit $20 million total.
