"This is gonna hurt big time. The words inside are not so bad if you were to read it carefully, but the headline is deadly."

Eric- I agree. Let's face it, Excite@Home has been effectively kicked out of Momma's nest. Those words of Armstrong were tough for me to swallow:

"Then, AT&T's Chairman C. Michael Armstrong, an At Home director, expressed concern that AtHome's business of using cable modems to hook up Internet users might not be a "great strategic fit" with Excite's Web portal service, according to a person at the meeting. The source quoted Armstrong as saying it might make more sense for AtHome to focus on high-speed communications links, while considering selling or spinning off Excite's Web content business, the Times said."

Armstrong's words sure do undermine Excite@Home's strategic plan. T's protection of ATHM was nothing more than sunscreen that has been effectively washed off by the waves of cries for open access. I feel a nasty burn coming to my Danish fair skin. Damn. Notice how the above source has even dropped Excite from the new name. Heck, you would think they weren't even a part of the company now.

T's share price has plummeted amid concerns of open access. Armstrong is now doing what is BEST for T, not ATHM. After all, I can't blame him. That's his job. T will be a winner with access to AOL's huge customer base. I would give anything to know what is REALLY on the minds of Bell and T.J.

I take my hat off to those of you who saw this coming. Ahhaha, you should be pleased. This is what you predicted and wanted to see happen. It is only a matter of time when open access (competition) will be here. The puzzle may also be coming together concerning the future of Excite and its relationship with @Home.

It will be a very interesting day. It makes me pleased I finally purchased some AOL stock. I know what that stock will do today. But ATHM? It better learn to start beating those wings and fast. The canyon bottom is coming into focus.

Sorry to hear that, guys. I sold ATHM last week because I saw a shakeout coming in the ISP world, and did not think ATHM was yet strong enough to withstand a battle between MSFT and AOL. And with T having controlling interest in ATHM, well that is the good news and also the bad news. Good luck, I might be back after the shakeout.
