I agree with you completely on the labels. I think it's pretty generally accepted that groups should self select on labels. Remember how much energy went into dueling labels on the abortion issue until finally each side got to be "pro" something? And minority groups always get to pick their own official labels, which change over time like fashion items. The Humpty Dumpty link was posted on another thread and I saw it just after our discussion on the subject. It seemed like an omen. I will use your terms when conversing with you. Just recognizing the inevitable and also trying to keep up everyone's cultural literacy.

RE compliments. My reaction was primarily shock at seeing one, rather than the content of the compliment. Since you can only shock me once, no need to exercise yourself coming up with more compliments.

RE self reliance and slippery slopes, I haven't forgotten that we have a pending issue, I'm just reconsidering getting into that subject on this thread. Since my value system is my own, derivative to be sure, but still my own, I sometimes forget that many people have value systems predefined by doctrine. Don't want to risk turning this thread into "Ask God." We have enough problems of our own.

RE continua. I'm talking about a straight line depicting the two extremes of a concept and a gradation in the middle. I'm making no attempt to populate the line with occurrences.
