Because Dell sells direct, it would seem to me that analysts would be more limited in their data sources for Dell than for CPQ. Less real data would make projected EPS more speculative and therefore would make the stock price more volatile and dependent on investor moods. Once the quarterly IDC and Dataquest numbers come out though Niles should have been able to make his change to Dell EPS projections. This rating change seems a bit slow. Just a thought.
