Dell Delivers "Virtually Flat" Trinitron Monitors; Leader in Monitor Shipments Incorporates Newest Trinitron Technology from Sony
ROUND ROCK, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 9, 1999--Dell Computer Corporation (Nasdaq:DELL), the leader in U.S. PC monitor sales(a), today expanded its Dell-branded monitor family with new flat cathode ray tube (CRT) displays based on Sony's FD Trinitron(R) technology.

FD Trinitron display technology enables minimal glare and distortion, and excellent image quality and color reproduction to support high-end graphics display requirements at an affordable price. Dell-branded monitors will be among the earliest displays in the market to incorporate this Trinitron technology, first introduced in the United States last year on the flat screen FD Trinitron Sony Wega(tm) televisions.

Available immediately, the Dell UltraScan(R) P780 17-inch (16-inch v.i.s.) display supports up to 1280 x 1024 resolution at a 75Hz refresh rate, features a .24-.25mm variable AG pitch, and adheres to appropriate environmental and ergonomic requirements, including TCO99, a leading international standard.

The UltraScan P780 can be bundled with any Dell desktop PC or workstation, and is also available separately for $374. Dell plans to offer the Dell UltraScan P991 19-inch (17.99-inch v.i.s.) and Dell UltraScan P1110 21-inch (19.8-inch v.i.s.) monitors, which also use the new FD Trinitron technology, later this year.

"Working closely with industry leaders like Sony enables us to provide our customers with full PC system solutions that include advanced technology, like FD Trinitron," said Bob Ashenbrenner, director, Dell's multimedia and displays development group. "By doing so, Dell has become the leader in monitor sales, with the majority of all Dell desktops, including Dell Precision WorkStations, Dimension and OptiPlex PCs shipping with a Dell-branded monitor."

"Sony is excited about Dell's early adoption of our newest Trinitron display technology," said Hiro Ishizuka, vice president of graphic display for Sony Electronics Computer Components & Peripherals Division. "As one of the largest worldwide users of Trinitron products, Dell's transition to FD Trinitron is an important step in the expansion of our strategic relationship."
