OK, but Yuri Andropov wasn't the worst of all communist leaders of the USSR when it still existed ... yet he was the first head of the security agency to become head of the USSR ... most of all he brought up Gorbachev ... and when in the summer holidays of 1991 the KGB together with others tried to topple Gorbachev, Putin wasn't in charge anymore ... which doesn't mean that his fingers weren't in this game, otoh ...
