Note that the sale is "part of a regular program of diversification", blah, blah, but was fully a third of the shares he actually owned outright. Maybe "regular" means "every time some more options mature"?

Gerstner's stake in IBM stands at about 8,005,000 shares, consisting of about 7.145 million shares under options and approximately 860,000 shares directly held, the IBM spokesman said.
